The New York Connecting Railroad - Part III

NYCRR FRESH POND JUNCTION OVERPASS
2:10pm The first move for our "compact" two engine, two car consist was southbound over the Fresh Pond East Yard Interchange track. Having cleared the existing freight on the NYCRR north/south tracks, we backed northward towards the overpass. Here's the picture of the runby:

BROOKLYN HERE WE COME - THE TUNNEL

2:30pm Underway again, proceeding south for the 11.4 mile trip, we "tunnel" under the Cemetery of the Evergreens and emerge, both into daylight and Brooklyn, under the Atlantic Ave 1914 Grade Crossing Elimination Overpass.

To the right of the signal, still evident, is the 1914 build date

THE CAR FLOATS

With the help of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) the newly renovated car float aprons are ready for freight. After the trip through Brooklyn, it was a welcome sight to see the harbor and feel the breeze.

DAY IS DONE

4:00pm and our tour is complete, with the exception of the ride back to Glendale. Hope you enjoyed the ride! Here's the departing shot of lower Manhattan; the city this freight rail line owes its very existence to.
