FRESH POND
1:00pm and our second stop, after refueling at
the local burger joint (via the Hyundai Express), was in Glendale, Queens, NY. The
temperature was well into the 90's by now with more to come. Reminded me of chicken on a
barbeque!

FRESH POND AREA MAPS Here's the site of LIRR's Fresh Pond Junction, the interchange
between LIRR's east/west Montauk Commuter Branch, the NYCRR's 9 mile (now CSX) link
northbound to Hell Gate, and the LIRR's (now leased to NYA -New York & Atlantic)
southbound Bay Ridge freight only single track line.
The last "station" counting down from Hell Gate, #145 Freemont, of the NYCRR
ends just above the junction. |

GETTING READY TO GO
2:00pm and our chariots have arrived; ready to go.
NYA GP38-2 #268 on the north point, an ex-LIRR bay window caboose, LIRR passenger coach
#2940, and NYA GP38-2 unit #261 on the south point. Just as soon as #268 negotiates the tight
curve (18" HO radius?) we all get on board.
The caboose is the Holiday special as the Frosty stencil was still evident on the window.
